Indigenous Resources

Resources are developed with careful consultation and collaboration with Indigenous Elders, Knowledge Holders and community members by Carmen and are customized to each region. Children learn through play, which is why the resources are designed with a hands-on, play to learn concept.

Educational resources are exclusively made for As One and whenever possible Carmen hires Indigenous Artists & Crafters to create them. Language cards are included in the resource and when possible have both traditional language representation and phonetic (reader friendly) versions set in the typeface Laconia First Nations by Ross Mills of Tiro Typeworks.

Training

The resources incorporate professional development. As One training takes place on Traditional Lands and includes teachings from Elders & Knowledge Holders from the local community.

The training session is a large part of the resource and is included in the cost. It covers Traditional Homes, Language, Food, Story Telling and Protocol.

A traditional lunch is provided along with Elders, Knowledge holders and an Early Learning Educational Session on how to use the resource every day in your classroom.

In the Fraser Region, the training takes place on the Traditional Land of the Nlaka'pamux Nation at Tuckkwiowhum Village in Boston Bar, B.C. and is hosted by Byron Spinks.

Custom Made for each Community

As One Resources & Training are available to Indigenous Communities, School Districts, Private Schools, Early Childhood Educators, Educators in Early Childhood Development Programs, Students and others.

As One Indigenous Resources are customized for each community to suit educational and budget needs. Carmen will travel to provide training at other Traditional Territories upon request.
